I grew up in Newtown, Connecticut before earning a bachelor’s in history from Lake Forest College. After undergrad, I joined the U.S. Air Force as an officer candidate and pilot trainee, with the intention to fly fighters, but was medically discharged.

Pivoting, I went back to school—first to the University of Oregon School of Law where I earned a juris doctorate, and then, to New York University where I earned a master’s in international relations and global journalism.

Since graduating, I have worked in government and journalism, most recently as a policy advisor for Portland City Commissioner Rene Gonzalez, and as a Senior Defense and National Security Writer for The National Interest.

Beyond work, I’m a former semi-pro hockey player, a licensed pilot, and a hair metal guitarist. I enjoy reading, writing, watching old movies, and spending time with my family.
